Safe Kids South Carolina

Safe Kids South Carolina is one of more than 300 grassroots coalitions in all 50 states, the District of Columbia and Puerto Rico that bring together health and safety experts, educators, corporations, foundations, governments and volunteers to educate and protect families. Safe Kids South Carolina, part of the global network of Safe Kids Worldwide, is a coalition of local and state community members and businesses whose mission is to eliminate childhood injury, the leading killer of children ages 14 and under.

The major component of Safe Kids is to provide education to parents, caregivers and children on how to reduce the risk of childhood injuries. Safe Kids offers expertise on child passenger safety, poison prevention, pedestrian safety, bicycle and other wheeled sports safety and fire/burn prevention as well as water, home and playground safety. More children are hurt or killed from these injuries than any disease including childhood cancer. However, as stated by Safe Kids Trident Area Coordinator Kristin Wedding, “The most important thing about these unintentional injuries is that they can be prevented.”

Safe Kids coordinators along with coalition members, travel throughout their respective areas attending community events as well as working with schools and childcare agencies to provide resources and education on how to prevent these tragedies from happening.
