The S.T.A.R Foundation

“Our limits will soon be our milestones”

While the dreamers in rural South Carolina communities are abundant, there is often a shortage of resources and information. Ambition without advocacy is comparable to a bird without wings, and one hopes for the opportunity to soar and positively impact the world, but dreams often succumb to circumstances. The S.T.A.R Foundation understands these challenges and offers Something True And Real.

The S.T.A.R Foundation was established by Alvin M. Curry, Thomas Glover and Asa Pressely, three visionaries from rural Johnston, South Carolina. Curry, Glover and Pressely formed a bond as high school classmates and college roommates. Their experiences inspired them to become catalysts for change and to empower the community to take collective action and social responsibility. Driven by the motto, “Our limits will soon be our milestones,” the community based foundation strives to improve the quality of life in Johnston, and their plan includes the implementation of a family literacy program, neighborhood revitalization projects, organizing annual school supply fairs and coordinating food drives.

The STAR Foundation’s other initiatives include a partnership with local schools to provide mentoring and career planning to students and serving seniors and the less fortunate hot, nutritious meals during the holiday season.

STAR believes that goals can be achieved through faith, education, critical and independent thinking, strategic planning and commitment. The foundation is diligently working toward reaching milestones and distributing wings to the community through a solid vision, determination and a passion for making a difference.
